History of broken hearts

by admin on September 15, 2010

Human history is filled with heart breaking stories of lost love and betrayed heroes. From biblical figures such as Samson and Delilah to totally fictional heroes such as Romeo and Juliet: history and current days have their fair share of heart breaking romances and love affairs.

Way back when

Back in the old, very old times, male men reigned supreme .They had the physical power to do so. Everyone knows the cliché of a man carrying a woman back to his cave after clubbing her… probably not a true scenario but one depicting the odds in a fair way. This inequality between women and men has existed up until recent history, and still is in many cultures. But women are catching up, faster than they ever did in human history.

While men had the upper hand with physical terms, women had had the upper hand emotionally. It is true today is has probably been since the dawn of history. In ancient history and indeed today, women get to choose the right male – whether for his physical strength, his sense of humor or the depth of his pockets – the woman in most cases gets her pick. For better or worst we are animals in our nature, and a male peacock is not that much different from the human male. But like any coin, this one has two sided – the other one being the oppression of women throughout history, much because men felt threatened and acted upon instinct.

No matter what the reasons are: the complicated women-men relationships had had they share in contributing many heart breaks over the course of history, we will try bringing some of these stories in future posts.
